Privacy Policy

Phi Focus is an offline study-time tracker. Your study data — subjects, sessions, to-dos, wallpapers, settings — stays on your device and is never uploaded. During the current closed testing period only, the app sends anonymous crash reports and basic app-usage statistics through Google Firebase so bugs can be found and fixed. That reporting can be switched off in Settings at any time, and it will be removed from the app when closed testing ends.

1. Information We Collect

We do not collect any personal information, and we never collect your study data.

Phi Focus stores the following on your device to provide its core functionality:

None of the above is ever uploaded. It lives in a local database and in the app's private files, and it is not sent to us, to Google, or to anyone else.

Separately, during closed testing only, the app sends crash and usage diagnostics that contain none of the above — see section 3.

2. Data Transmission

Phi Focus does not:

The app's only network activity is the crash and usage reporting described in section 3, which exists for the closed testing period and can be turned off.

3. Crash & Usage Reporting (closed testing only)

While Phi Focus is in closed testing, it uses two Google Firebase services:

What is never sent: your subject names, your study sessions and totals, your to-dos and their notes, your wallpapers, or any other content you create in the app. No name, email, phone number, precise location, or contact data is collected. The app does not assign or transmit any identifier that you have given it.

Your control. The first time you open the app it tells you this reporting is active and offers to turn it off immediately. You can also change it at any time in Settings → Crash and usage reporting. When it is off, nothing is collected or sent. Reporting is off until the app has shown you that notice.

It is temporary. This reporting exists only to find and fix bugs during closed testing, and it will be removed from the app when closed testing ends. This policy will be updated at that time.

Data handled by Firebase is processed by Google under its own terms — see the Firebase Privacy and Security page and Google's Privacy Policy. Firebase Analytics data is retained according to the project's Google Analytics retention setting, and Crashlytics reports are retained by Google for up to 90 days.

3a. Other Third-Party Services

Apart from Firebase Crashlytics and Analytics above, Phi Focus uses no third-party services — no ad networks, no social SDKs, no trackers, no other cloud services.

4. Permissions

Phi Focus requests the following Android permissions, all of which operate locally:

Permission Purpose
FOREGROUND_SERVICE Keeps the stopwatch/pomodoro timer counting while the app is in the background
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Shows a notification with timer progress while a session is active
VIBRATE Vibrates the device when a focus or break period ends (if enabled)
INTERNET Sends the closed-testing crash and usage reports described in section 3, and nothing else. No study data is transmitted.

None of these permissions involve location, camera, microphone, contacts, or any other sensitive data. Choosing a wallpaper uses the Android photo picker, which needs no storage permission: you pick one image, the app copies it into its own private storage, and it never gains access to the rest of your gallery.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your study data is stored locally using Android's Room database and Jetpack DataStore, and wallpapers in the app's private files directory. All of it is protected by your device's own security (lock screen, encryption). Since your study data never leaves the device, no additional encryption layer is needed. The closed-testing crash and usage reports in section 3 are transmitted over HTTPS to Google Firebase and stored there under Google's security practices.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data exists only on your device. You have full control:

We have no copies of your study data and cannot recover it after deletion. Crash and usage reports already sent to Firebase are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you or removed individually; you can stop any further reporting at any time using the Settings toggle.

7. Children's Privacy

Phi Focus is not directed at children and does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The closed-testing diagnostics in section 3 contain no personal information and no study content, and they can be switched off.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date. This page will be updated again when the closed-testing crash and usage reporting is removed from the app.
